Home/Blog / Brow Lift vs. Eyelid Surgery

Woman Touching ForeheadBoth eyelid surgery and brow lift surgery are highly sought-after procedures in the plastic surgery world. Each can offer a variety of benefits when performed by an experienced provider, and each can dramatically reduce the appearance of wrinkles, lines, and other signs of facial aging. While both can be very effective, patients often wonder which would be best to address their particular concerns. For this reason, our board-certified plastic surgeon, Charles Perry, MD, has drawn these important comparisons to help you make your decision.

Brow lift surgery is designed to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, lines, and drooping in the forehead area. Such blemishes often include furrows or creases on the brow, which can contribute to a “tired” or even “grumpy” look. The typical goal of brow lift surgery is to smooth and tighten skin and tissue that has begun to droop, as well as to smooth away creases and lines. The surgery is by and large considered solely cosmetic.

On the other hand, eyelid surgery, also known as “blepharoplasty”, can be performed for both aesthetic and functional purposes. This is because it targets excess or drooping skin above or below the eyelids, and the former sometimes causes patients to have trouble seeing, posing the need for surgical intervention. That being said, blepharoplasty can also reduce cosmetic concerns such as puffiness, bags under the eyes, and wrinkles in this area of the face.

While just one of these surgeries may be the best option for many individuals, in some cases Dr. Perry combines the two procedures. When performed together, blepharoplasty and brow lift surgery can create a comprehensively rejuvenated look in the upper areas of the face with significant reduction of droopiness, puffiness, and other aesthetic concerns.
