Have you heard of fat transfer, also called fat grafting? This procedure utilizes your own excess fatty tissue for cosmetic purposes. Dr. Charles Perry, our board certified plastic surgeon, performs facial fat grafting to reduce the appearance of many visible signs of aging using the patient’s own excess fat. This approach offers a number of benefits, not the least of which is utilizing a completely natural (autologous) resource that virtually eliminates the chance of an allergic reaction—something many individuals worry about with synthetic products.
Fat grafting also provides a number of other advantages, including:
- Smooths fine lines, wrinkles, scars, and other types of skin depressions
- Augments volume-deficient areas like the temples, cheeks, and lips
- Long-lasting, natural-looking results
- Little to no scarring in the treated facial areas
Fat grafting requires that the fatty tissue be harvested from one area, such as the thighs, hips, buttocks, or abdomen, and then be repurposed to use as a filler on the face (or another region). As a result, liposuction is a necessary part of the procedure. Many patients find this to be a benefit of the process, as they can simultaneously contour their body while rejuvenating their appearance.
At Chrysalis Cosmetics we also take the extra step of incorporating platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) to the fat grafting process. This technique, which uses your plasma (found in the blood), is designed to stimulate stem cell growth and promote advanced healing. We have seen excellent results, including improvements in fat transfer success, graft smoothness, skin elasticity, and skin repair. Dr. Perry will be happy to discuss this treatment with you during your initial consultation.
