Hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers have benefited many of our patients. With the advent of “medi-spas” and wide range of injectables on the market (e.g. JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®), more than one million people undergo dermal filler treatments every year.* With this in mind, Dr. Perry believes that overusing fillers can do more harm than good.
At Chrysalis Cosmetics, we’ve seen a growing number of patients seeking filler removal. While JUVÉDERM® and other injectables can revitalize the natural contours of a patient’s face, excessive use can sometimes distort their features. As fillers dissolve over time, they sometimes expand and “migrate” (or gradually shift away from the original injection site).*
Dr. Perry has also observed overfilling in areas like the cheeks, temples, and brow, as well as puffiness under the eyes or above the lips due to improper filling techniques.
In some cases, we can address dermal filler complications with hyaluronidase enzymes. This treatment can dissolve filler in as little as thirty minutes, with sessions typically spaced two weeks apart and costing between $300 and $500. A follow-up evaluation is usually recommended to fine-tune the results. More intensive procedures – such as eyelid surgery, brow lift surgery, a mini facelift, or a lip lift – may also be incorporated to further enhance the patient’s facial aesthetic.
Before getting dermal fillers, it’s important to consult with a trained plastic surgeon and receive a comprehensive list of their services. Some providers or injectors may be to assess or recommend alternative procedures (e.g. laser treatments) because they do not perform them.
If you’re looking to correct the effects of a previous dermal filler treatment, we encourage you to contact our team. We look forward to discussing our various options and creating a plan tailored to your unique needs.
