Home/Blog / How Can I Reduce Extra Skin Between the Breast and the Armpit?

Woman Checking Skin Between the Breast and the ArmpitA collection of excess skin and/or fat in the area between the breast and the armpit can be very frustrating. This so-called “pit biscuit” can sometimes occur in those who have lost large amounts of weight or have had breast augmentation. Fortunately, the fat pad and extra skin that can develop in that region can often be effectively treated. In fact, some patients who are looking to improve these concerns may not even need a surgical procedure to accomplish their goals.

In cases where the issue is primarily being caused by excess, inelastic skin that lingers between the armpit and the breast, an elliptical excision may be the best option. This treatment is surgical; however, it is one of the most common and relatively simple surgeries performed. A section of the excess skin will be removed and the remainder is brought together and tightened with sutures. Noticeable scarring should be minimal and/or as discreet as possible depending on the extent of extra skin being removed. For patients who are primarily affected by excess fat between the breast and the armpit, surgical liposuction may be the most ideal option.

With all of that in mind, some patients may be able to effectively address the concern with non-surgical treatments such as the CoolSculpting® Mini, which uses an advanced cooling technique to “freeze” the excess fat cells and cause them to gradually filter themselves out of the body. In other cases, an injectable treatment such as KYBELLA® may be recommended. This option utilizes targeted injections of the KYBELLA® solution to help break down the excess fat cells and produce enhanced contours in the region.
