Semaglutide is a scientifically-backed injectable treatment that can be used for weight loss. Classified as an “incretin mimetic,” the drug was designed to emulate the function of the GLP-1 hormone, creating a sensation of fullness and stimulating insulin release.* Since its introduction to the medical world, weekly semaglutide injections have helped many patients lose weight safely and successfully.
If you are interested in semaglutide injections, our Sacramento plastic surgeon would be happy to provide additional information. Schedule your consultation with Dr. Perry to learn more about semaglutide.
What Are the Benefits of Semaglutide?
When properly prescribed and administered, semaglutide can:
- Help patients lose about 15% of their body weight
- Regulate glucose levels and appetite
- Involve weekly injections designed for minimal discomfort
- Be an effective long-term weight loss solution (in conjunction with a healthy diet and active lifestyle)*
While semaglutide injections have helped a number of patients combat obesity, please note that this treatment is not for everyone. Dr. Perry would be glad to discuss your eligibility for semaglutide injections during a first-time appointment, and he is happy to communicate with other members of your care team (e.g. bariatric doctors) as needed.
How Is Semaglutide Administered?
Once a week, you will be directed to inject semaglutide into your upper arm, thigh, or lower belly. Injections with the small semaglutide syringe are not typically considered painful, but patients sometimes notice subtle pressure.
Initial side effects can include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and headaches. With this in mind, these concerns are generally seen during the first few weeks, and often fade as the body gets used to the semaglutide solution. Should you notice any abnormal effects (such as swelling, visual changes, or skin problems), let our office know immediately.
How Much Does Semaglutide Cost?
Pricing for semaglutide can vary. In many cases, health insurance plans will cover this treatment; however, it is always wise to make sure with your plan (and our team can help you navigate your benefits, as well). Please also note that we offer financing options for eligible patients through CareCredit® and PatientFi®.
