Plastic surgeons across America have helped patients achieve their dream physique following massive weight loss (or “MWL “). Any weight loss over 100 pounds is usually considered massive; however, the exact amount of weight lost prior to body contouring surgery can vary.

That said, many patients who have lost any significant amount of weight want to reduce the appearance of loose, hanging skin.

At Chrysalis Cosmetics, we offer post-bariatric plastic surgery procedures to contour numerous areas of the body after MWL. It is truly amazing to see the excitement and joy patients experience when their transformation is complete. Below, Dr. Perry has compiled a list of body contouring treatments that can tighten loose skin after MWL.

Facial Enhancement

In many cases, Dr. Perry recommends starting the post-bariatric contouring process from the top down, beginning with the areas most visible to others (i.e. the neck, eyes, and face). For example, a brow lift can open up the eyes and remove the tired look often associated with MWL. Meanwhile, blepharoplasty (or eyelid surgery) can remove excess skin around the eyes to dramatically brighten the facial aesthetic. These two options combined with a facelift – which can combat excess skin hanging from the neck and restore volume to the cheeks – can improve the overall facial balance and beauty while removing the constant reminder of having lost large amounts of weight.

Body Contouring

After restoring facial elegance, patients frequently desire an enhancement of their post-bariatric body contours. In particular, a thigh lift can produce a firmer, more toned appearance in the thighs, while a central and lower body lift (or belt lipectomy) can comprehensively enhance the lower body. Additionally, a tummy tuck can improve the appearance of the abdomen and allow one to feel healthier and more easily fit into clothing. Alternatively, a panniculectomy addresses the “apron” of skin that can exist after MWL, relieving painful complications and facilitating better hygiene. Liposuction and breast enhancement procedures may also be performed after MWL for a greater rejuvenation.

Dr. Perry believes it is a privilege as a plastic surgeon to play a role in post-bariatric plastic surgery. If you have lost a significant amount of weight and want to complete your transformation, we welcome you to contact Chrysalis Cosmetics
